Could Giants be potential Patriots trade partners in 2020 NFL Draft?

We don't know if the New England Patriots will trade up in the 2020 NFL Draft to select a top-tier quarterback.

We do know at least two teams atop the draft board are open for business.

Giants general manager Dave Gettleman reiterated Friday that New York is willing to trade its No. 4 overall pick.

"It’s something I will very seriously entertain," Gettleman told reporters, via the New York Post.

Gettleman admitted at the NFL Combine in February that the Giants are "open for business" regarding the No. 4 pick, so his intentions are clear.

Detroit Lions general manager Bob Quinn also revealed Friday he's had discussions with teams about dealing the No. 3 selection. So, while Joe Burrow and Chase Young are virtual locks at Nos. 1 and 2 if the Cincinnati Bengals and Washington Redskins keep their picks, the next two selections are on the table.

That's an intriguing development for the Patriots, who have close connections to both the Giants and Lions. Longtime Patriots assistant Joe Judge just took over as New York's head coach, while Quinn and Detroit coach Matt Patricia both worked with Patriots head coach Bill Belichick for several seasons.

A trade up to No. 3 or No. 4 would require New England to part with some serious capital -- i.e. at least one NFL player and/or a future first-round pick -- considering the team has just two picks in the first 90 selections at No. 23 and No. 87.

That'd be a bold trigger for Belichick to pull, but the Patriots have been rumored as a possible destination for Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who could go off the board in the first five picks.

NFL Media's Ian Rapoport also reported Thursday that New England could use a "premium pick" to draft a QB. A selection in the top five certainly would qualify as "premium," and we'll find out between now and next Thursday whether the Patriots feel like dealing with two familiar foes.
