Edelman seems all-in on Cam as Pats' starting QB

So much for that quarterback competition.

The New England Patriots have insisted the starting QB job is up for grabs between newcomer Cam Newton, second-year Jarrett Stidham and journeyman Brian Hoyer.

We're only a week into training camp, though, and it sounds like Newton is "the guy" in New England.

Julian Edelman's Twitter and Instagram posts Tuesday certainly suggested Newton is his new "superhero" partner after Tom Brady bolted for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in March.

Maybe Stidham can be the Robin to Edelman's Batman and Newton's Superman?

It's not too surprising that Edelman is gassing up Newton, a three-time Pro Bowler who's an elite QB when healthy.

The 31-year-old Newton came to New England with injury concerns after undergoing shoulder and foot surgeries within the last two years, but he's held up well in training camp so far, while Stidham has battled inconsistency and a leg injury.

Those developments apparently aren't lost on Edelman, whose "bromance" with Brady is in his rearview mirror as he and Newton start a new chapter together.
