Logan Ryan has had far more important things to focus on than football over the last few days.
The former New England Patriots cornerback, who joined the New York Giants in August, recently experienced a health scare with his wife, Ashley.
After the Giants' Monday Night Football game vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Ashley experienced stomach pains while on a flight home to Florida. Ryan says a team trainer offered medical advice that may have saved her life.
“She wanted to sleep it off,” Ryan said. “She was in extreme pain but she said she said she’ll wait ’til the morning. I talked to one of our trainers about the symptoms. He said, ‘No, she needs to go to the ER.’
"My wife ended up going to the ER and they ended up catching an ectopic pregnancy where the egg was in the wrong place in her fallopian tube and it was about to burst.”
Ashley underwent emergency surgery, and Ryan says she is now doing well.
“It was a trainer on our team, Justin Maher, telling my wife to go to the ER at 1 a.m. could have saved her life or saved a lot of internal bleeding,” Ryan said. “And that’s the type of organization we have here.”

Ryan went on to praise Giants head coach and former Patriots assistant Joe Judge for how he handled the Ryan family's emergency.
“Joe said, you know, if you need to fly to Florida, don’t worry about football. And that’s what Joe is as a man and as a coach,” Ryan said.
“I’ll do anything I can to play for a coach like that and to play for an organization like this because if that wasn’t the case, I don’t know if my wife would be here today, and honestly I’m extremely grateful for this organization and for Joe and for everyone to understand that there’s things bigger than football, especially this year.”
A scary situation indeed. Thankfully, Ryan had the right people around him, and his wife is going to be OK.
