Fantasy football Week 2 waiver wire: Top players to add to your roster

Share

Week 1 of the 2020 NFL season was an exciting time for fantasy football owners, and now it's time to get down to business and study the top pickups on your league's waiver wire entering Week 2.

Regardless of your team's success in the opening week, it's important to add much-needed depth to your roster in case of injuries, and the waiver wire often is the best place to find value.

Here are seven players to consider adding to your fantasy team via the waiver wire.

Mitchell Trubisky, QB, Chicago Bears

No, we're not kidding, Trubisky is actually a solid pickup this week. He played well in the Bears' win over the Detroit Lions in Week 1, when he threw for 242 yards with three touchdowns (all in the fourth quarter) and zero interceptions. Trubisky is always a threat to pick up fantasy points with his legs, and he did that Sunday with 64 rushing yards. He's also got a favorable matchup in Week 2 against a subpar New York Giants defense that allowed 229 yards and three touchdowns to Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger on Monday night. The Giants defense gave up 141 rushing yards, too.

Kirk Cousins, QB, Minnesota Vikings

Cousins played OK in Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers. He tallied 259 passing yards with two touchdowns and an interception. He also ran for 34 yards. Cousins has a favorable Week 2 matchup versus an Indianapolis Colts defense that allowed Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew II to toss three touchdowns on Sunday. Cousins isn't likely to put up massive yardage numbers, but he's a very accurate passer (69.1 completion percentage with only six INTs in 2019) and a reliable touchdown scorer. He threw a touchdown pass in 15 of 16 games last season, along with seven multi-touchdown performances.

Benny Snell, RB, Pittsburgh Steelers

Steelers starting running back James Conner picked up an ankle injury in Monday's win over the Giants, and even if he plays against the Denver Broncos in Week 2, Snell should get the majority of the carries. He's certainly earned them after rushing for 113 yards on just 19 carries versus the Giants.

Nyheim Hines, RB, Indianapolis Colts

Marlon Mack's season-ending Achilles injury opens the door for Hines and rookie Jonathan Taylor to get more touches in the Colts offense. Hines was a factor in both the pass and run games in Week 1. He tallied 28 rushing yards and one touchdown on seven carries, in addition to posting eight receptions on eight targets for 45 yards and another score. Hines is worth owning as a potential Week 2 starter, especially in half or full PPR leagues.

Anthony Miller, WR, Chicago Bears

Miller tallied four receptions on six targets for 76 yards and one touchdown in the Bears' season-opening victory over the Lions. He's one of the top targets in Chicago's offense and has a favorable Week 2 opponent in the Jets, who lack a shutdown cornerback. Miller, as a talented slot receiver, is especially enticing in any type of PPR format.

Scotty Miller, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady had plenty of praise for Miller before the season, and he wasn't shy about targeting the 23-year-old wide receiver in Week 1. Miller caught five passes on six targets for 73 yards. His excellent speed and improvement as a route runner make him an intriguing part of the Bucs' talented pass offense. He's definitely worth owning entering Week 2.

Dallas Goedert, TE, Philadelphia Eagles

Goedert is easily the top tight end to pick up this week. He had an excellent Week 1 game against the Washington Football Team with eight receptions on nine targets for 101 yards and a touchdown. He's emerged as a very reliable target for Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz and a true threat in the red zone. Goedert should be owned and started in all fantasy leagues going into Week 2.
