Patriots

This isn't exactly the reunion that Patriots fans were hoping for coming into this week.

Former Patriot Danny Amendola will reportedly be heading to Detroit to team up with Matt Patricia and Bob Quinn, per ESPN's Dianna Russini

As soon as Amendola was released by the Dolphins last week, rumors began to fly about a potential return to Foxborough.

Most recently, it was reported yesterday that both the team and Amendola had mutual interest in bringing the veteran back to New England.

MORE PATRIOTS OFFSEASON

While that interest may have been real, it didn't make a difference in the end. Amendola will be heading up north to join up with Matt Stafford. He plans to sign a one-year deal worth up to $5.75 million, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports

Now that Amendola isn't available, the Patriots' wide receiver issue looms larger. His signing wouldn't have solved all of their depth issues at the position, but he knew the system and would've been another dependable pair of hands for Brady to rely on.

As the offseason starts to get rolling, the team must search elsewhere in their quest for receiving depth while Amendola heads to the NFC.
