FOXBORO -- Let’s face it, being Jimmy Garoppolo doesn’t suck. He inked a massive contract with the 49ers this offseason, impressing everyone in the organization with his talent, his attention to detail and his ability to lead. Now he’s all over the news, going on a date with an adult film actress and being featured in a couple of major publications - Bleacher Report and Sports Illustrated.

In the latter, there was an interesting nugget culled by writer Jenny Vrentas. That Bill Belichick texted Garoppolo after each one of his five wins with San Francisco. Yes, the same technologically challenge guy who was captured by NFL Films explaining how he couldn’t change his car clock after daylight savings. The same fella who refers to social media sites as MyFace, InstaFace and SnapFace. Yeah, that Bill Belichick has apparently figured out texting though, predictably, he wouldn’t get into during his Wednesday press conference.

"Yeah, again, those are things that happened months ago and honestly I'm not too focused on October, November, December of 2017,” Belichick said when asked about the report. “I'm trying to get our team ready for training camp. That's where I'm at. I'm not going to engage in stuff that happened eight months ago. We could talk about a million things that happened 20 years ago. I'm not there.”

Perhaps he won’t, but his actions in texting Garoppolo further illustrate just how difficult a decision it was to trade Tom Brady’s backup at the trade deadline. Belichick had gone out his way in the preseason to to beat back those who thought Garoppolo had stagnated as a player then, upon the stunning trade, remarked how the Patriots had the “best quarterback situation in the league” and that team had “explored every option to sustain it” before finally pulling the trigger.
