Gil Brandt tweets that he'd like a little credit for Bill Belichick's drafting prowess

Bill Belichick's technophobia is legendary. The Patriots coach has admitted he doesn't know a lot about "SnapFace" or  "Instachat."

But when an 87-year-old starts roasting you on Twitter for your aversion to high-tech?

It's all part of a great story that former Dallas Cowboys draft guru Gil Brandt tweeted to wish Belichick a happy 68th birthday Thursday. It also included a reference to the influence the NFL personnel legend has had on the Patriots draft strategy over the years.

Brandt recalled getting help from Bill's father Steve, a longtime football scout for the Naval Academy, in the Cowboys eventually drafting of quarterback Roger Staubach.

Brandt, now a host on SiriusXM radio, also - jokingly, we think - was looking for a little credit in assisting Bill in building the Patriots dynasty.

Belichick's drafting abilities have been called into question lately. The Patriots and the Cincinnati Bengals are the only teams to not have drafted a Pro Bowl selection in the past six drafts. Still, Brandt recently called Belichick the best drafter in his lifetime.

That reputation will be put on the line again beginning Thursday as Belichick and the Pats begin a new era with one of the important drafts in franchise history.
