Gillette Stadium to become first mass vaccination site in Massachusetts

The New England Patriots' season is over, but Gillette Stadium is still being put to good use.

Governor Charlie Baker announced Tuesday the venue will open as Massachusetts' first large-scale COVID-19 vaccination site. Starting Thursday, vaccines will be administered at the Foxboro venue to priority recipients and first responders.

“Mass vaccination sites will play a critical role in distributing COVID vaccines as safely and quickly as possible,” said Governor Charlie Baker. “We are grateful to the Kraft family and everyone who worked with our Administration to quickly set up the mass vaccination site at Gillette Stadium, which will ramp up to vaccinate up to 5,000 people per day.”

That's a major step in the right direction.

We soon could see Fenway Park follow in Gillette Stadium's footsteps. The Boston Red Sox reportedly have been in touch with the state about opening a COVID-19 vaccination site of their own in Boston.
