Here's why Patriots have suspended Michael Bennett for one game

The New England Patriots have suspended defensive lineman Michael Bennett one week for conduct detrimental to the team.

Bennett explained what led to the suspension in a statement provided to ESPN's Jordan Schultz:

Bennett was not present at Tuesday's practice. This suspension means he'll miss the Patriots' Week 7 road game against the rival New York Jets on "Monday Night Football."

The 33-year-old has not played in as many regular-season snaps with the Patriots as many predicted before the 2019 season. His lowest total of the season came last Thursday against the New York Giants when he played only 11 snaps in the Patriots' 35-14 win. He hasn't played in more than 40 percent of New England's total defensive snaps in a game since Week 1.

Bennett has tallied five tackles (four solo) and 2.5 sacks through six games. He was acquired by the Patriots as part of a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles in March.

Phillip Dorsett was on the receiving end of Julian Edelman's go-ahead touchdown pass in the third quarter of Sunday's Patriots-Eagles matchup, but he paid a hefty price.

Dorsett was hit hard on the play and went into the medical tent before heading into the locker room. The Patriots ruled him out for the rest of the game with a head injury.

New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman showed off his old quarterback skills to score a much-needed touchdown early in the third quarter of Sunday's Week 11 game versus the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Patriots opened the second half with the ball and moved down the field with ease against the Eagles defense. New England entered the red zone for the fourth time in the game and scored their first TD thanks to an Edelman pass to fellow wide receiver Phillip Dorsett.

Brady took the snap on 3rd-and-11, threw to Edelman, who found a wide open Dorsett for a 15-yard score. The veteran wideout took a huge hit in the end zone but held onto the ball.

Take a look at the trick play in the video below:

It was Edelman's first touchdown pass since the 2014 AFC Divisional Round win over the Baltimore Ravens. Edelman, as you might already know, was a quarterback in college at Kent State. His NFL passing stats, as ESPN's Mike Reiss pointed out, are pretty good.
