Jacoby Brissett gives honest take on Colts fans booing Andrew Luck

Jacoby Brissett was just like the rest of the NFL world Saturday night: shocked that Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck decided to retire at age 29.

The Colts were in the middle of their Week 3 preseason game when the news of Luck's retirement was first reported, and when the veteran quarterback walked off the field for the final time at Lucas Oil Stadium, he was met with boos from Indy fans.

Brissett, like many people watching at home, was not pleased with the reaction from Colts fans. Here's what former New England Patriots quarterback told reporters Monday:

Luck deserved better from Colts fans after he put his body through many injuries to help the franchise win games for six seasons.

His retirement does throw the Colts quite a curveball with about two weeks before the 2019 NFL regular season begins, but Indianapolis does have a capable replacement to step up in Brissett.

Brissett started for the Colts when Luck missed the entire 2017 campaign due to injury. The 24-year-old quarterback threw for 3,098 yards with 13 touchdown passes and seven interceptions in 16 games. He also ran for 260 yards and four additional touchdowns.

The Colts, before Luck's retirement, were a popular pick to win the AFC South division and perhaps contend for the conference championship this season. Luck's departure likely takes the Colts out of the AFC title picture, but Brissett should be good enough to help Indy remain a serious threat to win the division and secure back-to-back playoff appearances for the first time 2013 and 2014.
