Jalen Ramsey trade rumors: These teams have made ‘substantive inquiries'

Jalen Ramsey is the hottest name when it comes to NFL trade rumors right now, and even though the Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback is expected to be active for Thursday night's game, he could be on a different team come Week 4.

ESPN's Josina Anderson reported Thursday an update on Ramsey's situation, and she listed several teams that have made "substantive inquiries" on the star cornerback.

The New England Patriots weren't mentioned above, but two of their top competitors in the AFC were listed.

The Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens both need a shutdown corner, and acquiring Ramsey would bolster both teams' defense quite a bit. The road to the Super Bowl in the AFC goes through the Patriots, and specifically Tom Brady's offense. The Chiefs showed last season they couldn't slow down Brady's passing attack when it mattered most. Kansas City gave 80 points to New England in two matchups in 2018, including a 37-31 loss in the AFC Championship Game.

The Ravens lost a few key pieces from their defense over the offseason, including linebacker C.J. Mosley. Starting quarterback Lamar Jackson has exceeded expectations early in his second season, and if he continues to win games and develop, Baltimore would be wise to consider moving up their timetable and make moves to contend right now.

There's no question a Ramsey trade could significantly alter the balance of power in either conference depending on which team trades for him -- assuming the Jaguars do make a move. He's a 24-year-old cornerback that Pro Football Focus ranked as the second-best player at the position entering the 2019 season.

Every legitimate Super Bowl contender should seriously consider trying to acquire Ramsey. For the Chiefs, in particular, it's a no-brainer.
