Jerry Jones: Dak Prescott is ‘good to go' for Cowboys opener

After dealing with a shoulder injury that has sidelined him for the bulk of the past month, Cowboys star quarterback Dak Prescott will play in Dallas' Week 1 contest against the reigning Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to owner Jerry Jones.

"I will say it again, [he's] really good to go," Jones said Saturday when asked about Prescott's health ahead of the team's final preseason game against Jacksonville.

Prescott returned to practice on Aug. 25 after not throwing for multiple weeks, as Dallas took a more cautious approach for their star quarterback's shoulder to heal. Jones said Prescott "turned it loose" during practice and felt good afterward, a positive sign in his recovery.

"He really turned it loose and none the worse for it," Jones said. "The MRIs were showing all systems go."

Jones was impressed with what Prescott showed in his return to practice, highlighting the velocity the 28-year-old displayed when throwing the football.

"He's throwing with velocity, throwing with emphasis," Jones said. "He's throwing on the run. He made a real long throw out there [Saturday] on the run. All of those things are a plus."

Barring a setback, Prescott will take the field on Sept. 9 against Tampa in what will be his first action in nearly 11 months. The Cowboys' QB1 has not taken a live snap since last October when he suffered a gruesome, season-ending ankle injury against the Giants.

As for Washington, they don't square off with Dallas until December. Prescott missed both matchups against the Burgundy and Gold last year, both of which were won by Washington. For his career, Prescott has a 7-1 record against Washington with 13 passing touchdowns and just one interception.
