Jets player gives honest take on how close New York is to Patriots' level

The New York Jets will enter the 2019 NFL season with a lot of optimism, and there are a few reasons for that.

The Jets hired Adam Gase, who was fired by the Miami Dolphins in January, to be the team's next head coach. New York also made a splash in NFL free agency with the signings of running back Le'Veon Bell, wide receiver Jamison Crowder and linebacker C.J. Mosley. The Jets also have the No. 3 pick in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Despite these additions and changes, anyone taking a realistic look at the AFC East race knows the gap between the Jets and the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots remains gargantuan.

Jets guard Kelechi Osemele understands the type of challenge New York faces to reach the Patriots' level, and he offered a realistic take on the situation Tuesday.

The Patriots have beaten the Jets six consecutive times, as well as seven of the last eight meetings. New England also has won 10 division titles in a row. New York hasn't even reached the AFC playoffs since 2010.

The Jets should be improved next season compared to 2018, but making the playoffs in 2019 still isn't a likely outcome for them. New York will get its first crack at the rival Patriots in Week 3 of the regular season at Gillette Stadium.
