Josh McDaniels favored to become next Packers head coach

When it was reported last month that Josh McDaniels had interest in head coaching opportunities, many speculated the Packers could be a good landing spot for the Patriots offensive coordinator.

Now that Mike McCarthy has been sent packing (no pun intended), it's starting to look like much more than simple speculation.

At 7/4, McDaniels is the odds-on favorite to become the next full-time Packers head coach according to Bovada.

After McCarthy's firing, Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports reported that coaches are anticipating McDaniels landing in Green Bay, and are planning accordingly.

"A handful of NFL assistant coaches have indicated interest in joining a McDaniels-led coaching staff in Green Bay, according to sources who spoke to Yahoo Sports on Sunday," Robinson wrote. "So much so that at least one has pulled his name from consideration for a college coordinator position. While such a development doesn’t guarantee mutual interest between the Packers and McDaniels, it is an indication the Patriots assistant is maintaining a list of staff candidates if he chooses to depart New England."

McDaniels nearly had the Colts' head coaching gig last year, but he infamously opted to stay in New England after already agreeing to terms with Indy.
