Josh McDaniels thinks Isaiah Wynn ‘held his own' in return for Patriots

New England Patriots left tackle Isaiah Wynn had a strong game against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday afternoon.

The young offensive lineman, who had been on injured reserve with a toe injury since after Week 2, has loads to learn, but New England's pass protection and blocking improved with his return in the Patriots' 13-9 win over the Cowboys.

"I think he acclimated well once he got settled in," offensive coordinator Josh Daniels said in a Tuesday conference call, according to WEEI's Andy Hart. "He was playing against good players over there on the left. I thought he held his own. I thought he did some really good things and then did some things where we’ll look forward to improving this week. He knew it right away. We’ve talked since the game. There is an eagerness now to try to improve on the things that he saw and felt that he didn’t do as well as he wanted to. We surely think we can make progress and push forward this week with that.”

Wynn's performance helped the Patriots in the running game, allowing New England to rush 104 yards -- led by Sony Michel's 85-yard game. The Patriots hadn't rushed for more than 100 yards in a game since their victory over the New York Giants on Oct. 10.

“We ran behind him a little bit in the running game and made some yards, had some good blocks and had some things that we can work out,” McDaniels said. “It’s always a good thing to get your first game under your belt after a long layoff and we’ll look forward to having a good week of preparation and practice with him, hoping that he can continue to improve and get better as we finish the season.”

Wynn will be looking to play an even bigger role on Sunday as the Patriots take on the Houston Texans.
