Julian Edelman's tweet shows he's happy to have Josh Gordon back

Julian Edelman's tweet shows he's happy to have Josh Gordon back

Julian Edelman was quick to react to the reinstatement of fellow Patriots wide receiver Josh Gordon.

Gordon, suspended by the NFL in December, is expected to return to the Patriots next week.

Within an hour of the news, Edelman posted this tweet:

Edelman has missed all of training camp with a broken thumb but is expected to ready for the season opener, Sept. 8 vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers at Gillette Stadium. And now, so is Gordon.

Patriots' Rex Burkhead, J.C. Jackson and rookie quarterback Jarret Stidham were among those liking the NFL's Instagram post announcing Gordon's reinstatement. NFL Network analyst Nate Burleson sees the Pats repeating as Super Bowl champs with Gordon rejoining the team.

NFL odds Week 3: Early spread for Patriots vs. Jets, all other games

NFL odds Week 3: Early spread for Patriots vs. Jets, all other games

The New England Patriots will be favored by more than two touchdowns for the second consecutive game when they take on the New York Jets in Week 3.

The Patriots destroyed the Miami Dolphins on the road Sunday in a 43-0 Week 2 win. New England's defense had seven sacks and four interceptions, while the offense was bolstered by the debut of newly signed wide receiver Antonio Brown. The 31-year-old veteran caught four passes from Tom Brady, tallying 56 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Oddsmakers pegged the Patriots as 18.5-point favorites against the Dolphins, and the defending Super Bowl champions easily covered the spread. With the Pats ready to host the Jets on Sunday afternoon at Gillette Stadium, oddsmakers again are making New England a massive favorite entering Week 3. The Jets also are expected to start backup quarterback Trevor Siemian against the Patriots because starter Sam Darnold is battling mono.

Here are the early spreads for every Week 3 game (via the Westgate Superbook):

The most notable spread on that list is the Dallas Cowboys being favored by 20.5-points over the Dolphins. The Cowboys are 2-0, and their high-powered offense led by Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott should easily be able to move the ball against a Dolphins defense that's given up 102 points over the first two weeks of the season.

The Dolphins have played so poorly that the Westgate Superbook is taking prop bets on them to finish the season 0-16 (the book also has odds on the Patriots going 16-0).

How Chase Winovich's late grandmother played a role in his performance on Sunday

How Chase Winovich's late grandmother played a role in his performance on Sunday

Chase Winovich had the best game of his young NFL career on Sunday afternoon.

The New England Patriots' third-round draft pick out of Michigan was a force to be reckoned with against the Miami Dolphins. He was one of the team's most productive pass rushers and finished the day with 1.5 sacks and 2 QB hits in limited action.

Winovich's sack was the first of his career and it was a special moment for him, especially because of something that he saw on the field just before the sack as he explained to reporters after the game.

That certainly is a touching story. And perhaps seeing the butterfly on the field did give Winovich the extra motivation that he needed to break into the backfield and put a hit on Ryan Fitzpatrick.

This also wasn't the first time that Winovich has presented an anecdote about his grandmother during his time with the Patriots. During the preseason, he spoke of how his grandmother used to offer him $5 and a chocolate bar if he played hard and didn't get hurt during his high school game. He joked that was part of what drives his relentless motor.

It is unclear if the grandmother from that story is the same one from the butterfly story.

The Patriots will be happy with Winovich's performance no matter what. He certainly has looked good as a part of the Patriots' suffocating defense and should only continue to improve as he gets further into his first season.
