Kraft: Picking Wynn, Michel in the first round novel in many respects

FOXBORO -- For the 25th time since buying the Patriots, Robert Kraft had the opportunity to welcome top draft picks to town on Friday.

Even with that kind of history already in the books, the team's most recent introductory press conference at Gillette Stadium -- where Georgia products Isaiah Wynn and Sony Michel donned Patriots caps -- had several firsts.

"This is the first time in the Patriots' history where there's been two first-round draft choices and they both come from the offensive side of the ball," Kraft explained. "What's unique here for us, I think it might be the first time in the history of the draft, [is] that these two fine young men come from the same school . . . and were roommates . . . and were captains.

"They know a lot of stuff about one another. They shared a few things with us that I'll leave to their discretion. But we're pretty excited to have them both."

Wynn is a versatile offensive lineman who projects as someone who can play guard or tackle. He was taken with the No. 23 overall selection on Thursday night.

Sony Michel is a dynamic running back who should be able to help the Patriots on all three downs. He was taken with the No. 31 overall choice in the first round -- the first first-round running back for the Patriots since Laurence Maroney was selected in 2006.

The two were roommates in college, and they may find themselves living together once again as pros.

"Maybe," Wynn said. "If not, neighbors."

"He can't run from me," Michel answered.
