Mac Jones becomes the first NFL rookie QB ever to pull off this feat

Another week, another milestone for Mac Jones.

The New England Patriots quarterback wasn't perfect in Thursday's 25-0 win over the Atlanta Falcons, throwing his eighth interception of the season and failing to complete a pass over 20 yards.

But that interception was one of just four incompletions Jones had on the day: The 23-year-old finished 22-for-26 (84.6%) with 207 passing yards and one passing touchdown.

In fact, Jones has just eight incompletions total over his last two games after going 19-for-23 (82.6%) for 198 yards and three touchdowns in a Week 10 rout of the Cleveland Browns.

How many rookie quarterbacks have completed 80% of their passes in back-to-back weeks, you ask? The answer: none before Jones.

As ESPN's Field Yates points out, Jones ranks third in the NFL in completion percentage at 70.2% behind only Kyler Murray and Dak Prescott. The Alabama product also is on pace to break Prescott's record of the highest completion rate by a rookie quarterback (67.8%) in NFL history.

Jones' impressive accuracy is partially the result of taking limited shots downfield in a well-designed system: He's tied for 15th in the NFL at just 7.3 yards per pass attempt.

But while Jones hasn't connected on many home runs, he's hit plenty of doubles, ranking sixth in the NFL with 34 completions of 20 yards or more. He's also excelled at completing out routes with some impressive numbers for a rookie in that department.

Most importantly, Jones has put the Patriots in positions of success, with seven touchdown passes to just two interceptions over New England's five-game winning streak after throwing six picks in his first six games.

Jones has a tall task ahead with matchups against the Tennessee Titans, Indianapolis Colts and Buffalo Bills (twice). But a Week 13 road matchup in Buffalo will give the No. 15 pick in the NFL draft another chance to make history.
