The most embarrassing moments in Jets history
Ah, the New York Jets.
Year in and year out, the Patriots' AFC East rival just can't seem to get out of its own way. The franchise has been defined by embarrassing miscues and headlines for decades now, and its on-field product certainly hasn't helped its cause.
With the Patriots preparing for a matchup against the Jets on Sunday, we figured it would be worth taking a trip down memory lane to revisit some of the most laughable moments in the organization's history. In no particular order, here they are in all of their glory. . .
Bill Belichick writes note on napkin to resign as Jets HC
On Jan. 4, 2000, after one full day with the team, Bill Belichick announced he was resigning as head coach of the New York Jets by writing a note on a napkin.
The Patriots hired Belichick 23 days later, and the rest is history.
Fireman Ed retires
Jets superfan Fireman Ed called it quits in the midst of the 2012 season, coincidentally (or not) right after the infamous Mark Sanchez butt fumble game.
You know things aren't going well when your No. 1 fan decides enough is enough. . .
"I wanna kiss you."
Jets legend Joe Namath made a fool of himself (and the franchise) on Dec. 20, 2003 when he drunkenly told ESPN's Suzy Kolber, "I want to kiss you, I could care less about the team struggling" during a sideline interview.
Brett Favre's text messages
During his lone season in New York, Brett Favre was investigated by the NFL for allegedly sending Jets "Gameday Host" Jenn Sterger lewd, unsolicited text and voice messages.
Sal Alosi trips a player
During a game in December 2010, then-Jets strength and conditioning coach Sal Alosi intentionally tripped Dolphins punt returner Nolan Carroll along the sideline. Not a great look.
Geno Smith gets sucker punched
In 2015, former Jets quarterback and first-round pick Geno Smith was punched in the face by teammate IK Enemkpali over $600. Smith was forced to miss several weeks with a broken jaw.
Rex Ryan's foot fetish
2010 was a solid season for the Jets, but of course there had to be some kind of distraction to take away from their success. An incredibly strange foot fetish video featuring Rex Ryan and his wife surfaced on the Internet, and plenty of jokes were made.
Mark Sanchez's butt fumble
Last but most definitely not least, Mark Sanchez's butt fumble. The ex-Jets QB running into the rear end of his offensive lineman on national television forever will summarize the plight of the entire franchise.
What embarrassing moment will come next?
Now, we just have to wait and see what the Jets have in store for us next. We already had quarterback Sam Darnold missing time this season due to mono, but one has to believe that won't be their only embarrassing storyline this season. Who knows, maybe the next moment will take place this Sunday.
