NFL rumors: Antonio Brown to file appeals, grievances for about $61 million

Antonio Brown is no longer playing for an NFL team, but he's still looking to get paid.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Sunday that the veteran wide receiver is poised to file what would be a record amount of appeals and grievances with the aim of getting $61 million.

Here's a recap of what Brown is expected to seek, per Schefter:

--Fine appeals with the Oakland Raiders: $215,000

--Salary guarantees with Oakland: $29 million

--Signing bonus with Raiders: $1 million

--Oakland's unpaid Week 1 salary: $860,000

--New England Patriots' salary guarantee: $1 million

--Patriots signing bonus: $9 million

--Patriots' unpaid Week 3 salary: $64,000

--Patriots' option year in 2020: $20 million

Brown was traded from the Pittsburgh Steelers to the Oakland Raiders in March, and he signed a three-year deal worth about $50 million with the Silver and Black. The Raiders released Brown before Week 1 after an offseason and training camp full of distractions. The 31-year-old agreed to sign with the Patriots soon after his release from Oakland.

Brown's stay in New England was short lived. He was accused of sexual assault and rape in a lawsuit filed on Sept. 10 in Florida by his former trainer. The NFL opened an investigation into those allegations, and that process is still ongoing. Brown still played for the Patriots later that week in their win over the Miami Dolphins, but he was released on the Friday before New England's Week 3 victory versus the New York Jets. A Sports Illustrated report posted on the Thursday before the Jets game alleged Brown sent intimidating texts to a woman who has accused him of sexual misconduct.

He went on a Twitter tirade last Sunday and called out Patriots owner Robert Kraft before deleting several of his tweets.

Brown remains a free agent, and a few teams are 'very interested' in signing him, according to his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. Whether any teams actually will sign Brown while he deals with these appeals/grievances and an NFL investigation remains to be seen.
