NFL Rumors: Antonio Brown still seeking NFL return, ‘preferably with Tom '

Share

Antonio Brown continued his campaign to return to the NFL and, preferably, catch passes from Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady (it's going to take a while to get used to typing that).

“It’s not about me. It’s about him,” Brown said of Brady in an interview with Mike Calta on 102.5 FM The Bone in Tampa on Friday. “I’m just excited for him and his new team, new opportunity, to just see how well he can do. I know his leadership, his on-the-field play is second to none. So, it’s all about Tom, man. I’m grateful for him. We both have our own situations. I’m just trying to do everything I can do to get stuff out the way, so I can get back to the field. I’m just excited for TB. He’s got a great opportunity. He’s one of my close friends.”

Brown's journey in and out of the NFL the past year has been well documented. The only game he's played has been last September in his 11-day stay with the Patriots when he caught four passes for 56 yards and a touchdown from Brady in a win in Miami. The sexual assault allegations against him and resulting NFL investigation mean he would likely face league discipline and need to be reinstated if he signs with a team.

Brady has been supportive of Brown throughout his difficulties, including on social media and visiting him in South Florida when the former Patriots QB was there in February for the Super Bowl, according to our Tom E. Curran.

When Calta asked Brown where he'd like to play, Brown said, “preferably with Tom.”

It was reported this week that despite Brady's relationship with Brown and Brown's desire to reunite with him, Bucs coach Bruce Arians wasn't too keen on the idea. Tampa Bay features one of the NFL's best receiver combos in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin and Arians previously dealt with Brown when the veteran coach was the Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator.

In his radio interview, Brown maintained that he has a “good relationship” with Arians.
