NFL Rumors: Julian Edelman, Patriots finalizing two-year extension

Julian Edelman reportedly is getting his payday.

The Patriots are finalizing a two-year contract extension with Edelman that could allow the wide receiver to play his entire career in New England, NFL Media's Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo was the first to report the news of Edelman's extension.

Edelman was entering the final year of a two-year, $11 million contract this season and had a $5.4 million cap hit planned for this season.

Edelman had a strong 2018 campaign after missing the entire 2017 season due to an ACL injury, tallying 74 receptions for 850 yards with six touchdowns.

The veteran wideout will turn 33 on Wednesday, and it's unclear how many more years he'll play beyond his 10th NFL season. But the Patriots seem intent on making sure those years are in New England.

UPDATE (11:06 a.m. ET): We still don't know the full details of Edelman's extension, but it's a substantial raise, as ESPN's Mike Reiss reports he'll earn $12 million in guaranteed money.
