The New England Patriots made an addition to their roster on Thursday.
Linebacker/special teamer Jack Cichy was claimed by the Patriots off waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network:
Cichy has mostly been used as a special teamer since being drafted in the sixth round out of Wisconsin in 2018. The 24-year-old has played in only 15 career games due to a torn ACL in 2017, another torn ACL in 2018, and an elbow injury that ended his 2019 campaign.
Before he can take the field with the Patriots, Cichy will have to clear COVID protocols. That means he's unlikely to suit up in Sunday's game vs. the Los Angeles Chargers.
When Cichy is cleared, he should provide some necessary depth on special teams and at the linebacker position as long as he can stay healthy.
