The New England Patriots have been busy in NFL free agency Thursday.

Shortly after reports of wide receiver Bruce Ellington planning to sign with the Patriots, Pro Football Talk reported free-agent safety Terrence Brooks has signed a two-year contract with New England.

Brooks played in 16 games for the New York Jets last season and tallied 10 tackles, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and one pass defensed. He has made one start in his five year pro career. The 27-year-old defensive back was a third-round pick (79th overall) of the Baltimore Ravens in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Brooks is best suited to fill a role on special teams. He led the Jets in special teams snaps last season.
