The New England Patriots' surprising roster moves have already begun.

NBC Sports Boston's Tom E. Curran has confirmed that the Patriots traded cornerback Duke Dawson to the Denver Broncos on Friday.

New England also sent a 2020 seventh-round pick to Denver in exchange for the Broncos' 2020 sixth-round pick, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Patriots took Dawson in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft, but the Florida product was placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury in September 2018 and didn't appear in a single game.

Dawson had been getting special teams reps this summer, but the Patriots are loaded at cornerback with Stephon Gilmore, Jason McCourty, J.C. Jackson, Jonathan Jones, Joejuan Williams and Keion Crossen all in the fold.

Ahead of Saturday's 4 p.m. ET deadline to trim rosters to 53-players, it appears Bill Belichick moved proactively to cut bait with Dawson while getting compensation in return.
