Nothing is certain in the era of COVID-19, including NFL player transactions.

The New England Patriots are not signing free-agent tight end Jordan Leggett, ESPN's Field Yates reported Tuesday.

Leggett and defensive tackle Darius Kilgo both visited the Patriots last week, per reports, and New England reportedly planned to sign both free agents if they passed their COVID-19 tests and physicals.

It appears the Patriots' acquisition of Leggett fell through, although it's unclear why.

New England is woefully thin at tight end after Matt LaCosse opted out of the 2020 season. Ryan Izzo is the only tight end on the depth chart with NFL experience, joining rookie draft picks Devin Asiasi and Dalton Keene and undrafted rookies Rashod Berry and Jake Burt.

The Patriots reportedly have shown interest in veteran free agent Delanie Walker and there still are other tight ends available in free agency. With Leggett off the table, expect New England to look elsewhere for help at the position.
