We have ourselves an NFL blockbuster, and it doesn't involve Tom Brady.
The Houston Texans are trading star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Monday.
Here are the terms of the trade, which involves Cardinals running back David Johnson going to Houston, per John McClain of the Houston Chronicle:
NBC Sports' Peter King had floated the idea of the Texans entertaining a Hopkins trade Monday morning, noting that the New England Patriots likely would have interest if so.
But the Texans apparently moved with shocking quickness, dealing the three-time All-Pro wideout to the NFC in exchange for Johnson and a second-round pick.
The Patriots obviously will have to look elsewhere as they eye receiver upgrades, and they still have to deal with Hopkins this year, as the Cardinals are on their 2020 schedule.
Whether Houston will be a serious playoff contender without Hopkins remains to be seen. Johnson tallied just 345 rushing yards on 94 carries last season while losing Arizona's starting job to Kenyan Drake and will turn 29 in December.
