NFL rumors: These teams have interest in Patriots free agent Phillip Dorsett

Monday has been a busy day for NFL wide receivers with the blockbuster trade that sent Houston Texans superstar DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals, as well as Minnesota Vikings wideout Stefon Diggs posting some interesting tweets about his future.

And we could see more movement in the near term.

The New England Patriots need to upgrade at wide receiver before the start of the 2020 season, and that objective could get tougher if free agent wide receiver Phillip Dorsett takes his talents elsewhere.

ESPN's Josina Anderson recently spoke to Dorsett, who revealed he's received interest from the San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks, Los Angeles Chargers, Las Vegas Raiders and New York Jets.

Here's more information on the Jets' interest in Dorsett, per The Athletic's Connor Hughes.

Dorsett tallied 29 receptions for 397 yards with five touchdowns in 14 games for the Patriots last season. His best stretch for the Pats came in the 2018 playoffs, when he caught a touchdown in both the AFC Divisional Round win over the Los Angeles Chargers and the AFC Championship Game victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. The Patriots went on to win Super Bowl LIII during that postseason run, but Dorsett didn't play much of a factor in the 13-3 victory over the Los Angeles Rams.

The 27-year-old wide receiver was acquired by the Patriots in September of 2017 in a trade that sent quarterback Jacoby Brissett to the Indianapolis Colts. Dorsett was a first-round pick (29th overall) of the Colts in 2015.

Dorsett would be a solid depth addition for any of the five teams mentioned in Anderson's tweet. He's not a No. 1 or No. 2 wideout, but he's a good No. 3 who would bring plenty of playoff experience to a new team. The Patriots would be wise to make him a competitive offer, but New England has plenty of other free agents to consider re-signing, headlined by quarterback Tom Brady.
