Week 7 Survivor Pool: The safest bets and off-the-radar options

Patriots

We're on to Week 7 of the 2021 NFL season and the appealing survivor pool options are dwindling.

To get to this point, you've likely already used up a few of the top teams in the league. If you still have some dominant teams at your disposal, it might be wise to save them for later depending on the number of competitors left in your pool.

So, how do we navigate another tricky NFL slate and advance to the next round? Here are the trendy picks, under-the-radar options, and traps to avoid in your survivor pools for Week 7.

Trendy Picks

Arizona Cardinals vs. Houston Texans

If you're desperate for a lock that will take you to Week 8, the undefeated Cardinals are the top choice. You won't be separating yourself from the pack as 45 percent of picks are on Arizona this week, but it's a solid "survive and advance" tactic. Picking against Houston has been a pretty reliable strategy thus far.

Green Bay Packers vs. Washington Football Team

The Packers have been rolling ever since that bizarre Week 1 blowout loss to New Orleans. They should have no problem keeping the hot streak going this week against a scuffling Washiington Football Team at Lambeau Field. Green Bay is the second most popular pick this week (20 percent) after the Cardinals.

New England Patriots vs. New York Jets

Now is the time to take the Patriots if you haven't already. A loss to the lowly Jets -- who they dominated in Week 2 -- at home would be catostrophic. While that close call vs. the Texans was concerning, New England did go toe-to-toe with two great teams in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Dallas Cowboys at Gillette Stadium. The first Patriots home victory of the season should come on Sunday.

Under the Radar

Atlanta Falcons at Miami Dolphins

Only 0.7 percent of players are picking Atlanta this week, so you'll absolutely be separating yourself from the rest of your pool with this admittedly risky selection. But Miami is coming off an eye-opening loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, who snapped a 20-game losing streak. The Falcons are a solid pick if you're trying to think outside the box.

New Orleans Saints at Seattle Seahawks

The Saints are fresh off a bye week while the Seahawks are coming off a hard-fought loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football. Seattle looked better than expected with Geno Smith under center, but I don't see the offense being able to keep up with a well-rested New Orleans squad.

It's A Trap!

Los Angeles Rams vs. Detroit Lions

Jared Goff revenge game? The Rams are heavy favorites, and for good reason, but the Lions are going to win at some point... right? They've already come close against formidable opponents like the Baltimore Ravens, San Francisco 49ers and Minnesota Vikings. The Rams are one of the most popular picks this week, but it might be wise to let the rest of your pool take them and see how it shakes out.

Kansas City Chiefs at Tennessee Titans

The struggling Chiefs defense looked better last week against Washington, but I don't see it happening again this time around vs. a Tennessee team that just rolled over the Buffalo Bills. Pick against Derrick Henry at your own risk.
