NFL Week 3 picks against the spread for Patriots-Jets, all other games

NFL Week 3 picks against the spread for Patriots-Jets, all other games

Week 3 of the 2019 NFL season has arrived, and there are several exciting matchups for fans to watch and wager on.

The best game of the weekend is a showdown between two of the league's best young quarterbacks. Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens will travel to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs and their star quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes and Jackson are two of the leading candidates for NFL MVP through the first two games. Jackson, in particular, has silenced his critics by showing off improved passing skills. The Ravens quarterback has thrown for 596 yards with seven touchdowns and zero interceptions in two Baltimore victories.

There are a few crazy-high spreads this week.

The New England Patriots are massive favorites for the second consecutive Sunday. They clobbered the Miami Dolphins and easily covered an 18.5-point spread in a 43-0 Week 2 win, and they are 22.5-point favorites in Week 3 against the rival New York Jets. The Patriots are 0-4 all-time against the spread when it is 20-plus points. However, this stat probably won't be enough to stop money from pouring in on the Patriots side of this matchup. New England has won six straight games against New York, and the Jets will be starting their third-string quarterback Sunday.

The other lopsided spread is the Dallas Cowboys being favored by 21.5 points over the Dolphins. Miami is a mess after dropping its first two games by a combined score of 102-13. The Cowboys are 2-0 and have the look of a legitimate Super Bowl contender in the NFC.

Let's take a look at the latest NFL odds (via the Westgate SuperBook) and make picks against the spread for every Week 3 matchup. Each pick is italicized (Season record: 16-16).

NFL odds Week 12: Opening spread for Patriots vs. Cowboys game revealed

NFL odds Week 12: Opening spread for Patriots vs. Cowboys game revealed

The New England Patriots are favored over the Dallas Cowboys by almost a touchdown in the opening betting lines for Week 12 of the 2019 NFL season.

The early spreads for every Week 12 game were released by the Westgate SuperBook in Las Vegas on Sunday evening, and the Patriots are 6.5-point favorites at home versus Dallas.

Here are all the lines for next week's matchups:

The Patriots have made sports bettors a lot of money this season. The defending Super Bowl champions are 7-3 against the spread (9-1 head-to-head) after Sunday's 17-10 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on the road. The Pats have a 1-game lead over the Baltimore Ravens in the race for the AFC's No. 1 seed.

The Cowboys are coming off a 35-27 Week 11 win over the Detroit Lions that moved them ahead of the Eagles for first place in the NFC East division.

New England has won five of its last six meetings with Dallas, including a 4-2 against-the-spread record over that span.

Kickoff for Sunday's game between the Patriots and Cowboys is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET at Gillette Stadium.

Kyle Van Noy finds more Patriots bulletin board material after beating Eagles

Kyle Van Noy finds more Patriots bulletin board material after beating Eagles

Kyle Van Noy keeps all of his receipts.

The Patriots defense got back on track Sunday in Philadelphia, limiting the Eagles to 10 points to help New England escape with a 17-10 win and improve to 9-1.

Van Noy contributed to that effort with five tackles, a sack, a tackle-for-loss and two quarterback hits. After the game, he continued his time-honored tradition of singling out his team's haters.

So, who is "good ole Tony"? Our guess is Tony Massarotti, considering Van Noy's history of calling out 98.5 The Sports Hub's "Felger & Mazz" radio show. Massarotti also has referenced the fact that this Patriots defense doesn't have traditional "stars" like other units, which makes their incredible success through 10 games all that more impressive.

It's also possible Van Noy is referencing CBS color analyst Tony Romo, who mentioned on Sunday's broadcast that New England's defense doesn't have many household names. You could argue that's a compliment: The Patriots defense is great because the entire unit is talented and works very well together.

You also can't argue with the results: New England is allowing just 10.8 points per game this season and still has a chance to break the 2000 Baltimore Ravens' record for fewest points allowed in a season (165).

But if the haters help Van Noy and his teammates play this well, he'd tell you to keep the digs (real or perceived) coming.
