Patriots agree to two-year extension with special teams ace Brandon King

The New England Patriots have locked up another one of their core special teams players.

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Patriots agreed to a two-year extension with linebacker Brandon King. King, 26, posted a career-high 12 tackles last season mostly playing on special teams.

King has played in 57 games with the Patriots since being an undrafted free agent out of Auburn in 2015.

Retaining King shows the Patriots' commitment to their special teams. As Pro Football Focus pointed out, the Patriots had three highly-rated players on their unit last season, and King was one of them.

Brandon King made 12 total special teams tackles last season without missing a single attempt.

He joins Matthew Slater and Nate Ebner as the only trio of teammates with top-20 special teams grades a season ago.

King's tackling makes him an asset on the unit, so it's easy to see why Bill Belichick and the Patriots wanted to keep him around. With Matthew Slater, Nate Ebner, Brandon Bolden, and King in the fold, they have a lot of very solid core special teams players locked up. Under Joe Judge, the unit should continue to be a strength.
