The New England Patriots have won five straight games while paying out for bettors on the NFL odds as they prepare to face Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers in a marquee Sunday Night Football matchup at Gillette Stadium.

New England is 5-0 straight up and 4-1 against the spread in its last five games, and sits atop the AFC East standings at 6-2 SU and 5-3 ATS heading into Sunday's game against the Packers as 6-point betting favorites at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

The Patriots managed to cover a large 13.5-point spread on the road against the Buffalo Bills on Monday night, thanks to a 13-point outburst in the fourth quarter that made the final score 25-6. Tom Brady completed 29 of 45 pass attempts for 324 yards against the Bills, but with no touchdown passes. James White rushed for a New England score in the contest.

New England began its current run back on September 30, topping the Miami Dolphins 38-7 at home as a 6.5-point betting favorite. Since then the Patriots have picked up wins over the Colts, Chiefs, Bears, and Bills, only failing to cover in their 43-40 win over Kansas City as 3.5-point betting favorites at home.

The Packers, meanwhile, have fallen to 3-3-1 SU and 3-4 ATS on the season thanks to their 29-27 road loss to the Los Angeles Rams last weekend. Green Bay did manage to cover the 7.5-point spread in that contest, only their second ATS victory in their past five games. Rodgers threw for 286 yards and a touchdown; Aaron Jones ran for 86 yards and a score.

Green Bay remains in a dogfight in the NFC North standings heading into Week 9, with the Chicago Bears at 4-3, the Minnesota Vikings at 4-3-1, and the Detroit Lions then at 3-4.

The Patriots and Packers have only met once in the past eight years, according to the OddsShark NFL Database, a 26-21 Green Bay home victory as 1.5-point betting favorites back in November 2014. Brady threw for 245 yards and two touchdowns in that defeat, while Rodgers had 368 passing yards and two scores.

New England has struggled overall against Green Bay in the past two decades, going 4-5 SU and 2-6-1 ATS in nine meetings dating all the way back to 1985.

The OVER/UNDER for Sunday night is set at 56.5 points at sportsbooks. The Patriots are 4-4 on the OVER/UNDER for totals bettors through their first eight games of the season, while the Packers are 5-2 in seven games. The 2014 meeting between the teams was an UNDER play.
