Patriots in rare spot at home after loss to Saints

Prior to Sunday's 28-13 loss to the New Orleans Saints, never in the 19-year history of Gillette Stadium had the New England Patriots started 0-2 at home.

You don't have to go back too much further to find the last time the franchise did drop each of its first two games at home, though.

Under the leadership of first-year head coach Bill Belichick, the Patriots last lost their first two home games in 2000. New England fell in Belichick's debut at Foxboro Stadium, 21-16 to the the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and again two weeks later against Randy Moss and the Minnesota Vikings, 21-13. It took a Week 6 visit from Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts for the Patriots to finally win a home game in 2000, 24-16.

As for the last time the Patriots started 0-3 at home? That would be the 1993, the first season for both Bill Parcells and Drew Bledsoe in New England. The Patriots wound up dropping each of their first six home games before winning their final two, en route to a 5-11 season overall.

With Brady set to return a week from Sunday with Tampa Bay, it's not impossible to see a scenario where New England is halfway to the 1993 team's mark of futility.

A visit from the Dallas Cowboys two weeks later won't be the easiest matchup, either, though the Patriots shouldn't have to worry about starting any worse than 0-4 at home with the New York Jets coming to town a week after Dallas.
