Patriots have spent years trying to find wide-receiver help

With the recent news of the Patriots closing in on a deal for troubled Browns receiver Josh Gordon, it further highlights their issues this year and seasons prior where they struggle to find veteran receiver help.

If Gordon ultimately ends up on the Patriots and can't get his previous substance abuse problems under control, the talented deep threat might join a list of wide-outs who've come to New England and retired from football all together.

Eric Decker: signed a one-year deal with the Patriots in early August but retired about three weeks later after an eight year NFL career.

Reggie Wayne: Signed a one-year deal with the team in August 2015 and requested release less than two weeks later.

Torry Holt: Signed for one year in April 2010, and requested his release later that summer.

Can Gordon and the Patriots make it work? If they can they'll have a generational talent at a position of need. If not, Foxboro Fields might have to make room for another resident.
