Patriots heavy betting favorites in Week 17 matchup hosting Jets

The New England Patriots (10-5) have never won the Super Bowl without earning a first-round bye in the AFC playoffs first, and they can accomplish that goal yet again on Sunday when they host the New York Jets (4-11) as 13.5-point home favorites on the NFL betting lines at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com in their regular-season finale.

The Patriots can clinch the No. 2 seed in the conference with a win, and still have an outside shot to get the No. 1 seed with a victory and losses by the Kansas City Chiefs (11-4) to the Oakland Raiders (4-11) and by the Los Angeles Chargers (11-4) to the Denver Broncos (6-9).

New England holds a tiebreaker edge with the Chiefs based on their head-to-head 43-40 win at Gillette Stadium back in Week 6. They hold the same advantage over the Houston Texans (10-5), who are currently seeded third and lost the season opener 27-20 in Foxboro.

The Patriots knocked off the Buffalo Bills 24-12 last week at home despite a season-low 126 passing yards from quarterback Tom Brady. The Patriots failed to cover the spread in a similar spot as 13.5-point home betting favorites, with rookie quarterback Josh Allen leading the Bills to a touchdown with 1:08 remaining in the game to beat the number after trailing 24-6.

Regardless, New England still did more than enough to win its 10th straight AFC East title.

This week, the Jets visit Gillette Stadium coming off a disappointing 44-38 overtime loss to Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. New York was outscored 18-3 in the fourth quarter, surrendering two rushing touchdowns to Rodgers and then a scoring pass from him to wide receiver Davante Adams in OT for the game-winner.

The Jets closed as three-point favorites on the NFL odds in that game, and they have lost the past seven road meetings with the Patriots by an average of almost 12 points, according to the OddsShark NFL Database. New England also brings a 14-game home winning streak into this divisional game, going 11-3 against the spread in those outings.
