Damien Harris won't be on the active roster when the New England Patriots begin their 2020 NFL season against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.

The second-year running back has been placed on injured reserve, the Patriots announced Monday. Harris recently underwent finger surgery, per reports.

The Patriots promoted running back J.J. Taylor to the 53-man roster from the practice squad as a result of Harris going to IR.

New England also placed defensive lineman Beau Allen on injured reserve. Allen has been dealing with an undisclosed injury. Rookie linebacker Cassh Maluia, who the Patriots selected in the sixth round of the 2020 draft, was promoted from the practice squad to the 53-man roster in Allen's place.

Harris and Allen are eligible to return after three weeks, so they will miss at least the first three games of the season -- Week 1 vs. Dolphins, Week 2 at Seahawks and Week 3 vs. Raiders.

Both Taylor and Maluia were released Saturday and signed to the practice squad Sunday.
