Tom Brady is the oldest NFL player who's not a kicker, but his age doesn't prevent the New England Patriots quarterback from being the league's most marketable star.

A new poll conducted by the The Daily asked 40 people, consisting of "marketing/branding execs, sports business professors and both print and on-air football media," to list their top five most marketable players. According to the Sports Business Journal, Brady beat out Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes for the top spot, but only by a slim margin.

Brady received 117 points, two higher than Mahomes. The Chiefs quarterback did get one more first-place vote than Brady. Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and quarterback Baker Mayfield, and New York Giants running back rounded out the top five of the poll.

It's pretty impressive that Brady is still the most marketable player despite the abundance of young stars who have entered the league in recent seasons. What it really comes down to is success. You want your brand associated with a winner, and there's no better winner in NFL history than Brady. The 42-year-old veteran holds the record for most Super Bowl championships by one NFL player with six, and it's quite possible he could finish with seven or eight titles before his career ends.

This poll also is further evidence that quarterback remains the glamour position of the sport. Six of the top 10 players (and 10 of the top 20) in the poll are quarterbacks.

Mahomes probably will supplant Brady as the league's most marketable player in the near future, but the reigning MVP still has a little ways to go before overtaking the Patriots quarterback on and off the field.
