Patriots QB Tom Brady says he's ‘very pro-ref' after tweets on Titans-Jags penalties

FOXBORO, Mass. -- New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady tweeted Thursday night he was turning off game between the Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars because of the abundance of penalties called.

There were 15 penalties called in the first half of Jaguars-Titans, which disrupted the flow and watchability of the game. Even FOX's television duo of Joe Buck and Troy Aikman mentioned Brady's tweets during the broadcast.

Brady's tweets were posted during the first half of Thursday's matchup, and coincidence or not, no penalties were called in the third quarter.

The Patriots quarterback met with reporters Friday and was asked about his Thursday night tweets. He didn't elaborate on them, but he did say "I'm very pro-ref."

The six-time Super Bowl champion was far from the only person to tweet about the penalties Thursday night. The concerns are valid, too, because offensive holding penalties are up quite a bit compared to last season.

The Patriots have penalized 15 times through the first two weeks. Two of them were declined and another was offsetting. Those 15 total flags are tied for the second-fewest in the league.

The defending Super Bowl champions will host the rival New York Jets at Gillette Stadium on Sunday. The Jets have been penalized 25 times (five were declined) through two games, the third-most in the league.
