Patriots-Rams was second-highest rated Super Bowl in Boston since 2001

The more "boring" a game is, the fewer people watch. Right?

Super Bowl LIII would appear to buck that trend.

The Patriots' 13-3 win over the Los Angeles Rams at Mercedes-Benz Stadium arguably was its least dramatic Super Bowl of the Tom Brady-Bill Belichick era. (Their other eight Super Bowls were all decided by one possession.) But a look at the game's ratings in the Boston market shows local interest was very high.

Only the Patriots' Super Bowl XLIX win over the Seattle Seahawks -- highlighted by Malcolm Butler's dramatic, game-winning interception -- received a higher rating in the Boston market than Super Bowl LIII, which garnered a 57.1 household rating locally, according to the SportsBusiness Journal's Mark J. Burns.

That means Super Bowl LIII did better in the ratings than the Patriots' incredible comeback over the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI (which actually ranked pretty low on this list) and their historic upset of the Rams back in February 2002.

Ironically enough, this Super Bowl fell relatively flat in national ratings, pulling its lowest overnight household rating in 10 years.

But while national interest waned, local support of the Patriots mirrored the current state of the dynasty: still as strong as ever.
