Thursday night's preseason opener was an encouraging one for Patriots rookies, including defensive end Chase Winovich.
The Michigan product contributed a sack in the third quarter vs. the Lions, then another in the fourth.

All signs point to Winovich becoming a fan favorite in New England sooner rather than later. The third-round pick has the talent to match the fiery competitive spirit he put on display during his college days.
Other rookie standouts were wide receiver Jakobi Meyers (two touchdown grabs) and quarterback Jarrett Stidham (14-24, 179 yards, TD).
The entire Patriots defense was impressive on Thursday night as they earned a 31-3 win at Ford Field. Next up, a meeting with the Titans in Nashville on Aug. 17.
