Patrick Chung's broken arm suffered in the Super Bowl will need surgery that's scheduled for Thursday but the Patriots safety also faces a long recovery this offseason because of a subsequent shoulder surgery, according to Jeff Howe of The Athletic.

Chung's right forearm was fractured on a tackle early in the third quarter when it got caught between the Rams' Todd Gurley and teammate Jonathan Jones (see tweet below).

Chung had been playing with a shoulder harness due to the previous injury. His forearm was immediately put in an air cast on the field and he walked off with trainers, turning down the use of a cart to be taken to the locker room for X-rays. He returned to the sideline with his right arm in a sling and celebrated with his teammates at the end of the game, raising the Lombardi Trophy in his left hand.

The veteran safety has played nine seasons over two different stints with the Patriots. He turns 32 in August and is signed through 2020 after signing a two-year, $11.5 million contract extension in May 2018.
