Patriots' Stephon Gilmore reveals his Chiefs vs. 49ers Super Bowl prediction

New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore understands what it's like to play in the Super Bowl.

He's played in the last two, and his interception late in the fourth quarter of Super Bowl LIII helped the Patriots defeat the Los Angeles Rams for their sixth championship in franchise history.

Gilmore is in Orlando this week getting ready to play in Sunday's 2020 NFL Pro Bowl, and that's where ESPN asked him for his Super Bowl LIV prediction. The veteran defensive back is picking the Kansas City Chiefs to beat the San Francisco 49ers and lift the Lombardi Trophy.

Gilmore does have plenty of experience going against Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his high-scoring offense. The Patriots have played a Mahomes-led Chiefs team three times since Gilmore arrived in New England for the 2017 campaign, and they are 2-1 in those matchups, including an overtime victory in last season's AFC Championship Game.

Mahomes has thrown eight touchdown passes through two playoff games in leading Kansas City to its first Super Bowl appearance in 50 years. The 49ers, to their credit, have a superb defense, but this unit likely will need to give its best performance of the season to slow down Mahomes and earn a victory in Miami.
