Patriots Talk Podcast: Dissecting the NFL Draft's top QBs and best Patriots fits

With the New England Patriots officially eliminated from playoff contention, Bill Belichick and Co. are on to 2021.

The offseason will be an interesting one for a number of reasons, but the No. 1 focus will be on what is done about the quarterback position. While Cam Newton would love to get another shot in New England, it seems more likely right now that the Patriots will look to the 2021 NFL Draft for their next QB.

Curran: Why Rosen joining the Niners matters in Foxboro

If that's the case, who are the best QBs in the Draft who might be available when the Patriots are on the clock? Bruce Feldman of The Athletic joined Tom E. Curran and Phil Perry on the latest Patriots Talk Podcast and provided some insight.

"I think it's an interesting group. ... The guy who I think a lot of people in college football thought would be the second-best prospect among prospects probably isn't right now. I think that guy, Justin Fields at Ohio State, I think is going to be leapfrogged by Zach Wilson from BYU who's had a remarkable season," Feldman said. "The ball jumps out of his hands, he's one of these guys who can make throws from all angles. He's just got a real 'it' quality about him. The other thing is from knowing Jeff Grimes the offensive coordinator there, he was not healthy at any point last year, so I think people probably got a false read on what he was or was capable of. He has really just blown up this year.

Right after Fields and Wilson is a player who college football fans didn't get to see much this season.

"Another one who's kind of a wild card is at North Dakota State, that's Trey Lance. Had a remarkable redshirt freshman year last year, 28 touchdowns and zero picks. He was a guy who was an under-recruited, good all-around athlete in Minnesota who almost nobody in FBS football wanted. North Dakota State believed in him. ... He's very talented but he has not played much. He only got to play in one game this year against Central Arkansas, didn't look great in it. So I think there's going to be a big projection with Trey."
