New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and wide receiver Julian Edelman, along with retired tight end Rob Gronkowski, like many athletes around the sports world Monday, sent well-wishes to Boston Red Sox legend David Ortiz after Sunday night's shooting in the Dominican Republic.

Ortiz was shot in the back and underwent surgery at an area hospital. Fortunately, he is expected to make a full recovery.

Here's is Brady's tweet about Ortiz:

Brady, a winner of six Super Bowl titles with the Patriots, and Ortiz, a winner of three World Series with the Red Sox, are two of the greatest athletes in Boston sports history. For that reason, and others, they share a special bond.

Edelman also sent a message to Ortiz with an Instagram post:

Gronkowski followed up with his own Twitter message for Ortiz Monday afternoon:

Ortiz is recovering at a hospital in the Dominican Republic as of Monday morning, per reports. A suspect in the shooting has been arrested, according to police.
