The 2020 NFL season has finally arrived, and the New England Patriots will open their schedule with a Week 1 game against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday afternoon at Gillette Stadium.
The Dolphins surprisingly upset the Patriots in Week 17 of last season, which prevented New England from having a first round bye in the playoffs. It was an embarrassing home defeat for the Pats and one they definitely have not forgotten about.
That said, a lot has changed for these teams since that matchup last December.
The Patriots roster looks quite different at several positions, most notably at quarterback where Cam Newton has replaced Tom Brady, who left in free agency to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. New England's linebacker corps also has undergone several changes after offseason departures and opt outs.
The Dolphins were busy in the offseason, too, and signed a couple former Patriots in free agency including linebackers Kyle Van Noy and Elandon Roberts, as well as center Ted Karras. Miami also made 11 selections in the 2020 NFL Draft, including three in the first round.
Both teams will enter this season-opening matchup with plenty of motivation and a lot to prove.
