Patriots-Jets inactives: Hightower out; rookie RB a healthy scratch

The New England Patriots will be without one of their defensive leaders Sunday at Gillette Stadium.

Linebacker and co-captain Dont'a Hightower is inactive for the Patriots' matchup with the New York Jets due to elbow and ankle injuries. He was listed as questionable on Friday's injury report.

New England already is down Jonathan Jones after placing the slot cornerback on injured reserve Saturday. The team's depleted defense is eyeing a bounce-back performance after getting torched by the Dallas Cowboys in Week 6.

Rookie running back Rhamondre Stevenson also is inactive for the fourth time in seven weeks. Second-year back J.J. Taylor is set to play after missing the last two games, so he and Brandon Bolden will handle backup duties behind starter Damien Harris.

The Patriots also will welcome offensive guard Shaq Mason, who missed Weeks 5 and 6 due to an abdomen injury, back to the starting lineup.

Here are the official Week 7 inactives for the Patriots and Jets. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET at Gillette Stadium.
