Patriots will need another kicker vs. Texans after Nick Folk appendectomy

From 1996 to 2018, the Patriots had remarkable stability at the kicking position, with Adam Vinatieri and Stephen Gostkowski combining to miss just nine games.

But 2019? That's been a different story.

The Patriots will need yet another kicker after Nick Folk had an emergency appendectomy Thursday morning. The news was first reported by CLNS Media's Mike Petraglia.

The good news is that it was reportedly a minimally invasive procedure, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport. The bad news is that New England will need to move on to its fourth kicker of the season.

Gostkowski struggled in the early going, missing five kicks in four games before landing on injured reserve. The team turned to Mike Nugent, but he missed three field goals and an extra point in four games.

Folk took over for New England in Week 9 and had gone 7-for-9 on field goals and 3-for-3 on extra points, only missing a couple of kicks in sloppy conditions against the Cowboys last week.
