Report: Antonio Brown tried to ‘accelerate' release from Raiders

Just when you thought the Antonio Brown story couldn't get more bizarre, another twist has emerged as part of the saga.

Before joining the New England Patriots, Brown apparently tried to "accelerate" his release from the Oakland Raiders. According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, Brown sought the advice of social media consultants to speed up the process of Oakland cutting him.

Here's Mortensen's explanation of the rumor via the NFL on ESPN Twitter account.

This certainly would be another odd addition to the story. But, perhaps that would explain why Brown posted pictures of letters from Mike Mayock on Instagram while releasing some other questionable videos over the course of the weekend.

And it would also explain his elated reaction to finding out he had been cut.

We may never get an answer about whether or not this was actually what happened. But either way, the focus for Brown moving forward will be integrating himself into the Patriots team and trying to emerge as a contributor. His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said that Brown "wants to be a Patriot", so hopefully, things will work out better in New England than they did in Oakland.
