Report: Gilmore may have avoided serious knee injury

What appeared to be a devastating knee injury for Stephon Gilmore in Sunday's game may not have been as horrific as it looked.

Gilmore went down with a non-contact injury during the New England Patriots' Week 15 matchup vs. the Miami Dolphins and immediately grabbed his left knee. The All-Pro cornerback had to be helped off the field by trainers and did not return to the contest.

There's one option for Newton in 2021 that's flying under the radar

It certainly looked like a serious knee injury, but Gilmore and the Patriots may have dodged a bullet. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports Gilmore actually suffered a leg injury that might not have been as bad as it seemed.

Though nothing has been confirmed regarding Gilmore's status, that's definitely an encouraging sign. Gilmore is the Patriots' No. 1 cornerback and the 2019 Defensive Player of the Year, not to mention 2021 is the final year of his contract.

We'll likely know more about the extent of Gilmore's injury on Monday after he undergoes tests.
