Report: Pats make special travel arrangements for Chiefs game

The New England Patriots will put their ample resources to use Monday in the name of safety.

The Patriots, who are set to play the Chiefs at 7:05 p.m. ET on Monday night in Kansas City, will travel to the game in two separate planes, Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio reported Sunday.

Per Florio, one plane will carry the roughly 20 people who have had "close contact" with quarterback Cam Newton, who was placed on the COVID-19/reserve list Saturday after a positive test Friday. The other plane will carry the rest of the team.

Patriots owner Robert Kraft and team president Jonathan Kraft own both planes and actually deployed them in a similar situation last season when a flu outbreak hit the team.

Using two planes is a wise precaution to take, but it still highlights the risk of the Patriots traveling to Kansas City to play Monday night.

While the team hasn't had a positive test since Friday and will be tested again Monday morning before traveling, the incubation period for COVID-19 can last up to two weeks, meaning a player or coach could have tested negative this weekend but still have the virus.

The Patriots are preparing to leave for Kansas City "early" Monday morning if they clear another round of testing, per our Phil Perry.
